Casual Lake Luxury - A Dreamy Local Listing

I'm at it again! Even though, I am completely committed to loving our current home for life, I can't help myself but scroll through the local listings.  So from time to time, I thought I would share the really dreamy ones with all of you. Here's the last one I shared. 

This time?  It's a dreamy lake house near where we live.  I actually have grown up visiting this lake my whole life.  Such fond memories of swimming, floating, boating, and celebrating on this lake with my family.  It's the largest natural lake in Indiana and its strategic location between Chicago, Fort Wayne, and Indianapolis means that the real estate around it ranges greatly from modest lake cottages to extravagant vacation mini mansions. 

Here's one that made my heart have palpitations.

According to the listing, the home was built in 2003, but I think it has the charm of a home that my grandparents could have built! I also love homes that aren't trying too hard for your attention.  The exposed rafter tails, big screened in porch, wide white trim, and casual light blue siding all say, "Come on in friends.  Leave your weekly worries at the door.  And. Welcome to the lake".

And does anyone else spy a fieldstone chimney up there? Perfect!

Here is the other view - looking at it from the street.  

And here is the home's view of the lake! I mean... where's the dock?  I'm ready to dive right in!

But to avoid seeing my pasty white legs, instead, lets just dive right in with the tour of the house!

As you walk into the back porch you see this adorable wooden dutch door with the nautical lanterns on both sides.  Whoever built this home made some good decisions.  Very good decisions indeed.

But the little turtle photobombing this picture is a bit distracting.  I see you there Mr Turtle!

And you couldn't see it from the exterior shots from further away but it looks like the siding is a shake siding.  A perfect fit for the lake side home, don't you think?

Once inside, the attention to detail does not falter.

The kitchen is not huge, which I love, but large enough to do the job.  The planked walls are my fav.  And the ceilings are planked too because, well, its just the right thing to do.

Ya'll should know I love the white shaker style inset cabinets!

And the planked wall and ceiling continues into a sweet little breakfast area.  I love a school house light as much as the next person but I think I would have done something more nautical inspired.  Like maybe this pottery barn light.

Stepping back you can see the open floor plan that is tied together with more planked walls (which had to be an expensive and time-consuming upgrade!!)

That fireplace with built-ins on both sides?  Love!  I just wonder why they decided not to center the fireplace and make the shelving symmetrical (open vs. closed). 

But the fieldstone fireplace?..Cozy to the max!

And this... I also love! All those windows getting all that natural light, not to mention optimizing the view of the lake! On a nice cool day at the end of summer, can't you just imagine opening up the doors and windows and sitting down with a cup of coffee in the morning and reading your favorite blog?! ;-)

But look at the porch that faces the lake!! So wide and welcoming! I know this space gets used the most!... other than the lake itself of course!

And I love that they have a dining room table and chairs out there.  I would eat out there every night for as long as the weather would permit! Candles, grilled steak, grilled veggies, good drinks and friendly conversation.  Sign. Me. Up.

In this picture you can see that the ceiling is exposed and painted white.  What if you painted it blue?!

Back inside, the home has 5 bedrooms and 5 baths.  Which seems like a lot from looking at the outside of the home.  The home is a little over 2800 square feet. 

Check out this room with the adorable planked wall that is the height of where the roof line comes down.  So smart and creates great visual interest. 

But looooooook at that!  I want it!  I want that built in dresser in the worst way.  Why?  I shouldn't have to explain this to you.  I think it speaks for itself.

The bathroom continues the planked walls.  I love the square tilt mirrors they chose.  It continues the feel that this casual home has been here a while. 

And another view of the room reveals this beautiful soaker tub.  For some reason it makes me imagine taking a warm bath on a rainy summer evening.  That just sounds amazing. 


Want this home?! So do I! Wanna go in on it together and we can share?! I've got a couple hundred dollars so I'll need you to pick up the rest of the $2.2 million. (Million!!!) Thanks! I call 4th of July weekend!!

What's your favorite part?  The planked walls?  The screened in porches?  The view?  This one is hard for me to decide because I feel like if I built a lake house, I would want it to look VERY similar to this one.  But then, who doesn't just fall in love with a wooden dutch door?  I guess I'll choose that along with the large wrap around screened in porch as my favorite things.  So what about you, what's your favorite part?

Country Charm - A Dreamy Local Listing

Gasp!! Oooh myyy Gosh! My dream home is for sale y'all.

Of course, I live in my dream home (or what will be our dream home when we finish renovating), but if there was a house that might convince me to ever move, this would be that home.  I thought it would be fun to share with you the home that my mom and I have ogled for years now.  It just popped up on the market and I about fell off my seat when I was scrolling through the local real estate website and saw it listed there.  And I knew that I had to share it with all of you.  Lets take a look.

Charm for days, right? The cobblestone work on the exterior is enough to stop my heart. 

The listing states that the home was built in 1850 and is almost 4,000 square feet.

And when you walk up on the wide porch you can see a little closer view of that amazing stonework.

How about you and I sit out there and chat over a cup of coffee! Whether we own in it or not, I'm game.  I'm sure the owners would understand... who could blame us for wanting to sit a spell on such a idyllic porch. 

Entering the front door you see a beautiful open staircase and what I believe is a beadboard ceiling. 

Then you see this:

I mean. Just. What?  So stunning.  I can picture an old American flag over the fireplace, some gingham throw pillows and the book shelf filled with old books and antiques.  Simple Americana Elegance.

For such an old home, I was surprised to see such an open flow in the layout.

I wonder what is under all that carpet?  I would bet money there's hardwood floors.  Lemme at 'em!

The kitchen is a bit outdated but with some wallpaper removal, new appliances, and a coat of paint to the cabinets, it wouldn't take much to update the space.  For the cabinets I think I would paint the lowers grey and the uppers white.  And how'bout that adorable little island?  Can I paint it blue?.. then again, maybe after the perimeter cabinets were painted, the island would be perfect left stained.  Soapstone for the coutnertops and a farmhouse sink, I think!  The floor? Depending on the condition, I think you could make them work. 

Again with the openness - so surprising in such an old home - although this part of the house is clearly an addition.  The kitchen and eating area open up to this casual little living room.  The painted fireplace (love the color) with the exposed stone wall behind it? Perfection.  

Then right past the eating nook, it looks like there is a screened in porch with views of the beautiful property.

There is also a mudroom that I'd love to see more of.  And I think I'd repaint it yellow... or a soft green.  Or maybe cream.

The home has 4 bedrooms and 3 full baths.

Check out this bathroom with more exposed stone!

I would totally de-wallpaper the room, repaint the trim, and then add a white planked wall.  Farmhouse-y light, mirror, and sink too for sure! Similar to this one that I had pinned earlier this week. 

Now.  As if this house wasn't awesome enough, the outside continues to be just amazing.  Starting with this gorgeous barn.

And that little gazebo?  Stop.

The listing says that on the second floor of the barn is a full basketball court.  What in the world!?  How awesome is that!!...not that I would use it much (organized sports, not really my thang), but to have kids on a property like that would just be amazing!

The property is 4.89 acres and just beautiful!

Charm.  All day long.

And of course it has a pond, with fountain.  Because why not? 

And an adorable little potting shed too.

What's your favorite part?  The exterior of the home with the adorable stonework was it for me.  It wouldn't even matter what the inside looked like.  And that barn. oh. that. barn.

Parade of Homes: The Big One

Welcome back friends! If you are just tuning in, on Sunday I walked you through four home tours on the Parade of Homes that we went on a couple of weekends ago in our county.  If you missed those first four tours, click here to see them!

And today, I saved the best for last! This home is what I call The Big One.  This couple built themselves almost 7000 square feet in order to house them and their 8 children.

8. Whoa. Geez. That's a lot of kiddos. 

Which, you have to agree, probably warrants a lot of square footage.  Lets take a look, shall we?

House #5

The Exterior: Loving that copper accent (of course... you know me and my love for copper)!

 

The Entryway: Loving the large chandelier and the warm and creamy color against the white trim. The color reminded us of the color we just painted our living room.

The Home Office: Loving the masculine wood built-ins and floating desk.  (These could totally be DIYable - similar to these from Young House Love, don't you think?

The Dining Room: Loving all of this! Wow! That navy is beautiful! And the layered crown molding with board and batten below? Stunning.

The Great Room: Loving the large chunky mantel and that sofa table. You could totally build that sofa table too. 

The Powder Room: Loving that mirror and fancy shmancy wallpaper.  Michael was not a fan...shocking. Admittedly, it is pretty glam for any man (slant rhyme intended). 

The Kitchen: Loving the cabinets with glass uppers, that ginormous fridge with coffee bar and ice machine next to it.  I was just saying the other day, I could see how a free standing ice machine might be a nice thing to have...especially if you had 8 kids.

The Breakfast Area: Loving the window seat behind the table and the double chandeliers.

The Master Bedroom: Loving that upholstered headboard and the blue/grey and tan color scheme

The Master Bath: Loving the vanity area and the big soaker tub with coffered ceiling over the tub (who does that)?!

 

The Mudroom: Loving the cabinet color (they are a little more blue in person than they are coming across in the picture) and the light fixture and all that storage above and below

 

The Laundry Room: Loving the space for laundry baskets (there are 8!), the drawer pulls, and laundry canisters. I also really liked the laminate countertops - looks like a dark butcher block.

The Upstairs Landing: Loving the little library nook that is to the left as you come up the stairs and that the hallway is open to the great room downstairs

The Kids Room: there were 6 of them, but this is the best one.  Loving the built-ins with window seat!  Heck with the master bedroom, I call this room!

The Bathrooms: There are 6 of them (including the master bath). Because, you know, as Michael said... "just in case you get home and everyone has to pee at the exact same time! No one has to wait!"  Seems logical.)


The Basement: Loving the large space and the bar area, and of course it wouldn't be complete without a wine room!  (I'm sure the parents deserve a glass of wine -or a room full of wine- every now and then!)

So what did you think? What was the standout room for you?  Mine was definitely the dining room - although to be fair, it was probably the most decorated room of the whole show.  Regardless, I was in love! But some close seconds were the mudroom/laundry room as well as that bedroom with the built-ins.  But how 'bout that kitchen!?

What would you have to have in a home if you had 8 kids?  I would say a laundry shoot.  I didn't see one.. But then again, 7000sqft, maybe I missed it!
